ALPFA Miami Hosts First Annual Art Auction Fundraiser

Enjoy an evening of art, networking and philanthropy at ALPFA‘s (pronounced Alpha) first annual Art Auction Fundraiser to benefit La Liga Contra El Cancer (The League Against Cancer). This is ALPFA’s first annual art auction. Each year, a different organization within the community will be the beneficiary of the event.

This year’s event will take place at The Westin Colonnade Hotel in Coral Gables on Thursday, July 24. The auction is part of the ALPFA Cares series, a volunteer and philanthropy program through which members give back to the community while increasing their leadership skills.

The auction will include works by local artists, including Rigoberto Pelaez, Miguel Ordoqui and Villamil. The evening will begin with a networking cocktail party during which guests can view the art. A live auction will follow. All proceeds in excess of the asking price will be donated to La Liga Contra El Cancer.

“This event is geared towards established professionals who want to give back to the community,” said Daniel Yip, the Senior Vice President and VP of Communications & Marketing at ALPFA Miami. “People who want to buy art and will recognize that doing so is benefitting a great organization, in this case, La Liga.”

La Liga Contra El Cancer is a Miami-based non-profit organization that provides free medical services to cancer patients who cannot otherwise afford treatment or do not have health insurance. Since La Liga opened its doors in 1975, more than 50,000 individuals have been treated. Today, over 350 physicians donate their time and talent to La Liga.

“Leaders have a responsibility to the community,” said Yip. “The art auction features the importance of social responsibility and giving back to the community.”

ALPFA, formerly the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting, is a national organization that has grown from a Latino networking group to a leadership organization. The Miami chapter has a total of 1,300 active members, ranging from high school students to established professionals.

Each year, ALPFA hosts several events that foster leadership and professional development, such as networking opportunities and leadership summits. Later this year, ALPFA will host its popular domino event and a women’s book discussion on Sheryl Sandberg’s Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead.

“We focus on our active membership and are always looking for new people to energize our organization,” said Yip. “We want people who can take charge of our chapter and take it to new heights.”
